As the name implies that was inspired by tradition Japanese Folk Art -Origami. The urban intervention we have created does much then a parking space for a bike or recharge your scooter. It serves as a community Hub bring in the neighbourhood together, share one's thought, host events, dinner party…
Its organic form was inspired by how origami was created. the way they folded, cut-out, the temperature of rice paper. Taking that as source of inspiration and bring into the fabrication method. All structure components are made of pine plywood and digitally fabricated under factory condition. Delivery Flat-pack and assemble on-site by hand tools. Open source files can be downloaded and laser cut-out in any local maker bay. Meaning any community member can modify, twisted and created their own vision of Parklet. The Design can enrich and feed into the collective database. Making the Origami Parklet truly belong to the Neighbourhood.
The Layout of the Parklet can be re-arranges to accommodated different spacial need during different time of the day. host various event. our mission is to raise the bar and go beyond the standard cafe-seating model. We see this as an informal community gathering space, a green social hub in the street, a stage open to everyone.
